What is Bottom Up?
Bottom Up describes an approach to development that takes people and their potential as the starting point and seeks to express this fully.
It contrasts with Top Down which is an approach to development characterised by a (relatively) small number of people making plans for progress and then, more or less, imposing them on people in the belief that progress will be made.
It is my contention that both 'top down' and 'bottom up' processes are critical in the development of people, communities and economies.
However we have been over-run with top down approaches that leave many people as disempowered subjects rather than active citizens in the processes of participative democracy in building a vibrant society.
This blog will explore approaches to strengthening 'bottom up' development.
